Alberta announces new AAIP route designed for law enforcement professionals

Overview

The government of Alberta announced they will be adding a new pathway to the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) later this year targeting law enforcement professionals.

This announcement is after Alberta noticed a notable decrease in interest locally from Albertan's interested in pursuing a career in policing. This program will assist Alberta with keeping Albertans safe and protecting the safety and security of Albertans by supporting the police services departments.

Alberta noted they will be releasing more details soon. Applicants will be required to have a job offer. Additionally, this is going to be an Express Entry stream, so applicants are required to meet one eligibility criteria for an Express Entry stream.

Types of law enforcement occupations that qualify

As apart of the announcement by the government of Alberta, the occupations that will qualify under this stream include:

·       Police officers who are commissioned and non-commissioned

·       Related occupations in public protection services

·       Police investigators and other investigative occupations

·       Law enforcement occupations that are specialized

Job Offer Requirements

Furthermore, to receive an invitation to apply, as noted above, applicants will be required to have a job offer. The job offer will need to be from an Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police member.

What is the AAIP

The “Alberta PNP” better known as the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) operated by the province of Alberta, Canada. It is a partnership between the province of Alberta and the Government of Canada’s - Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) federal department.

The AAIP gives power to the province of Alberta to nominate candidates and their family members for permanent residence in Canada. Candidates must show they intend to live and work in the province of Alberta. There are certain eligibility criteria under each program of the AAIP, candidates that can assist Alberta with the province’s growth in relation to its labour market and economic goals are considered.

There are several streams under the AAIP, each with its own respective eligibility criteria.

Streams for Workers:

·       Alberta Opportunity Stream

·       Alberta Express Entry Stream

·       Rural Renewal Stream

Streams for entrepreneurs:

·       Rural Entrepreneur Stream

·       Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

·       Farm Stream

·       Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
